LEGAL AID
The Law Students’ Society of Kenya engages its membership in legal aid programs to provide legal assistance and advice to individuals who cannot afford to hire lawyers for legal matters.
The purpose of legal aid is to ensure that everyone has access to the legal system and can receive fair representation in civil and criminal cases, regardless of their financial situation.
Through the legal aid programs, the LSSK and the society’s partners contribute to a more equitable society by addressing systemic injustices and aiding in the attainment of the right under article 48 “Access to justice for all”
OBJECTIVES
The primary objectives of the LSSK Legal Aid Clinic are as follows:
- Tocollaborate with law students, volunteer legal professionals, and partners to ensure that individuals who cannot afford legal representation have access to quality legal services.
- To empower the community by providing them with the knowledge and tools to navigate the legal system effectively.
- To advocate for the rights of affected populations.
- To raise awareness about legal rights and responsibilities.
LEGAL LENS ESSAY COMPETITION
The Legal Lens Essay Writing competition is an annual competition hosted by the LSSK. The competition seeks to engage law students in intensive legal research and writing on key law and contemporary social issues.
The LSSK believes that by providing a forum for students to disseminate their ideas and essays, the professional and academic communities are enriched.
OUR OBJECTIVES
- Cultivate legal Writing Proficiency and presentation of thoughts and ideas coherently.
- Expand students’ knowledge base by engaging them in legal research on the topic.
- Promote Networking and Collaboration.
- Raise awareness about the specific challenges and vulnerabilities faced by third-world countries in the context of climate change and invite participants to present fresh perspectives, novel solutions, or unique approaches.
- Establish a platform for Students to be recognized for their scholarship and for outstanding essays to be rewarded.
THE BUZZ SESSION
This is a platform where the society members engage on different topics and dissect contemporary legal & social issues that are critical to our understanding as young 'lawyers'
The buzz session hosts students from different law schools in the country, lawyers, advocates and experts as panelists on a hot legal topic monthly.
It takes advantage of the online platforms we have to keep legal minds from across the country engaged in heated discussions on a carefully selected topic
OBJECTIVES
Provide participants with valuable legal knowledge, insights, and updates on specific legal topics, ensuring they stay informed and up-to-date.
Raise awareness about legal issues, challenges, and developments, and encourage participants to become advocates for legal causes or reforms.
Create opportunities for legal professionals to connect, share knowledge & experiences, and build professional relationships with peers, mentors, and experts in their field.
Facilitate open and constructive discussions, debates, or dialogues on legal topics, encouraging diverse perspectives and critical thinking.
